Every generation faces periods of profound change.
Today, artificial intelligence is transforming work at extraordinary speed. Climate change is placing new pressure on our environment and infrastructure. Global instability is making the world less predictable. Our populations are ageing and new technologies continue to reshape the way we live.
None of these changes exists in isolation. Together, they will shape the future of our islands.
Too often, societies begin asking the important questions only when events leave them little choice. By then, the conversation is no longer about preparation. It is about reaction.
Island Ready was created from the belief that the best time to ask the important questions is before they become urgent.
That does not mean trying to predict the future. It means recognising change early, understanding what it could mean for Jersey and Guernsey and creating space for thoughtful public conversation while there is still time to act.
Better questions lead to better conversations. Better conversations can lead to better decisions. And better decisions give our islands the best possible chance of thriving in a changing world.
Island Ready was founded by Hannah Maden-Adams, following a career working with governments, charities and private sector organisations on complex programmes of change.
One pattern kept emerging: many of the challenges organisations eventually had to respond to were not unexpected. They had been developing for years, but meaningful conversations about them often began only once they became urgent.
Island Ready asks, what if we started those conversations sooner?
The aim is to create more space in Jersey and Guernsey to look beyond immediate pressures, think longer term and explore the changes that could shape our islands before they demand a response.
Success will not be measured simply by the conversations Island Ready creates, but by whether they encourage more people across our islands to ask important questions earlier, consider different perspectives and think further ahead.
Trust matters. Island Ready is independent and not affiliated with any political party, government department, business or campaign group.
Currently, Island Ready is funded entirely through the voluntary time and commitment of its founder. As the initiative grows, we will be transparent about how it is funded and will publish details of any financial support or partnerships.
Editorial independence is central to everything we do. Financial support will never determine the questions we ask, the evidence we explore or the people we invite to contribute.
We are equally committed to accuracy. Island Ready will draw on credible evidence and trusted sources, distinguish clearly between fact and opinion, and challenge claims that are unsupported or misleading.
Where facts are disputed or evidence is uncertain, we will say so. Where different interpretations of the evidence exist, we will seek to represent them fairly. And if we get something wrong, we will correct it.
Every Island Ready conversation begins with one test: Could this issue significantly shape the future of Jersey and Guernsey?
Topics are chosen for their long-term significance, not simply because they dominate today’s headlines.
We seek credible evidence, relevant expertise and a range of perspectives. Where different views exist, we want to understand them.
Island Ready does not tell people what to think. We ask important questions, explore the evidence and create space for informed public conversation.
Evidence-led
We start with evidence and are willing to change our thinking when the evidence changes.
Independent
We are politically independent and do not promote a particular party, organisation or agenda.
Open to different perspectives
Complex questions rarely have simple answers. We actively seek different experiences, expertise and points of view.
Long-term
We look beyond today’s headlines to the changes that could shape our islands over years and decades.
Transparent
We will be open about how Island Ready works, how it is funded and how contributors are selected.
Curious
We believe asking a difficult question is more valuable than pretending to have an easy answer. If we make a mistake, we’ll correct it. If new evidence emerges, we’ll acknowledge it. And if better questions arise, we’ll ask them.
